When I received the email below from Google this morning, I thought it was some sort of spam or scam. Then I gave a second look at the photos above the 250,000 views and I did recognize my photos. I was curious and clicked the link...

... the link took me to this page where I could see that indeed, the 11 food porn photos I uploaded on Google Maps had been seen 253,728 times!!

I was blown away because I never thought these photos would be seen by anyone. The truth is that I took these photos because in these 11 places, (1) it felt like there was something special that someone would want to know about, (2) I wanted to reward the owners by promoting them and (3) I wanted to remember these odd spots with great food.

Now Google invited me to their "local guides" program and is offering me a bunch of cool rewards for having helped others.

This accidental success is no accident. I've had a LOT of "accidental" successes in my life. A few examples are giving 2 TED talks, winning the UK Business Speaker of the Year Award runner up, my 1st book becoming required reading at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, being invited to speak at Harvard, exhibiting my photos at the European Union, etc.

For this "accidental" success, I used the same recipe as for all my odd achievements:

  1. SHARE WHAT YOU LOVE
  2. HELP OTHERS
  3. HELP YOURSELF
  4. REWARD PEOPLE FOR DOING GREAT STUFF
  5. REPEAT THE ABOVE STEPS EVERY DAY
